Stevie Smith
One of my favourite poets of all time was the late Stevie Smith. As a young teenager my mum had a book of hers in one of the bookcases in the house and I picked it up on a hormonal day and started reading.
She seemed to have an amazing but yet very to the point way of describing things without 'frilling up' her poetry which some others do.
I always remembered her 'English woman' poem (mainly because it was so short that even I could remember it)

"The Englishwoman is so refined,
She has no bosom and no behind"
For those wanting to find out a bit more about her then please have a look at the link above which gives you some background on her history till her death from a brain tumour. Also for those who love poetry and hearing it rather than reading it for themselves then there are some great video, audio snips on you tube so have contained a link for this with her reading of 'Not Waving, but drowning'. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s8KIr98WDtc
